Acne is something we all dread, especially when a sudden breakout appears right before an important event. While there are countless treatments out there, sometimes the simplest solutions can be surprisingly effective. One such method that has been gaining popularity is icing. Yes, you heard that right—applying ice to your breakouts could help you manage them better. Let's dive into why icing might be worth adding to your skincare routine and how to do it safely.

Why Ice Can Help with Acne

Icing your skin has several benefits, particularly when it comes to acne. Applying ice directly to a breakout can help reduce inflammation, redness, and swelling. When you place ice on your skin, it constricts blood vessels and reduces blood flow to the area. This process helps calm down the redness and makes the breakout less noticeable. Additionally, ice can also relieve the discomfort associated with inflamed pimples.

How to Use Ice for Acne

Before you grab an ice cube and press it against your skin, here are some tips on how to do it the right way:

  1. Wrap It Up: Never apply ice directly to your skin. Instead, wrap an ice cube in a clean cloth or paper towel. Direct contact can cause irritation or even mild frostbite.

  2. Short Intervals: Apply the wrapped ice cube to the affected area for 1-2 minutes at a time. Give your skin a break and then repeat as needed.

  3. Don’t Overdo It: While icing can help, overdoing it may lead to more harm than good. Stick to short bursts rather than prolonged exposure.

  4. Use Clean Ice: Make sure the ice you use is clean and fresh. It’s a simple thing, but it can prevent introducing more bacteria to your skin.

When to Use Icing

Icing is most effective on new breakouts that are just starting to form, or on painful, inflamed pimples. If you notice a red bump appearing, ice it immediately to help reduce its severity. It can also be helpful after a workout when your skin might feel flushed and irritated.

Combining Ice with Other Treatments

While icing is great, it’s not a cure-all for acne. It works best as a complementary treatment alongside other skincare products like cleansers, exfoliants, and serums. For example, you might ice a pimple first to reduce swelling and then apply your spot treatment to help clear it up faster.

A Simple, Cost-Effective Skincare Hack

One of the best things about using ice on your breakouts is how affordable and accessible it is. You don’t need to spend a lot of money or schedule an appointment—just grab a few ice cubes from your freezer. That being said, consistency is key. If you're dealing with persistent acne, it's always a good idea to consult a skincare professional for personalised advice.

After completing my Level 3 Access to Aesthetics and passing the Anatomy and Physiology exam (which honestly felt like preparing for a nursing degree), I thought I had already faced the most challenging part of this journey. But diving into Level 4 Dermaplaning and Micro needling has introduced me to an even deeper level of knowledge—overwhelming, enlightening, and full of learning curves.

Overwhelmed, But Thriving in Level 4

The journey of diving into the vast realm of skincare is indeed a challenging yet rewarding experience. With a plethora of information to absorb, ranging from intricate product knowledge to the advanced understanding of skin anatomy, the learning process can feel overwhelming at times. Each layer of knowledge uncovered seems to reveal a new depth, leading to a continuous cycle of discovery and growth. As I immerse myself in the world of skincare treatments, particularly the delicate art of micro needling, the demand for focus and precision becomes even more apparent. This specialised technique not only requires a keen eye for detail but also a deep understanding of how the skin responds to different stimuli. It is through dedicated evenings of revision, study, and practice that will pave the way for mastery in this field. Embracing the intricacies of micro needling not only sharpens my skills but also fosters a sense of constant evolution. Every session becomes an opportunity to refine my techniques and expand my knowledge. The journey towards becoming an expert in this field is a continuous one, marked by perseverance, dedication, and a relentless hours.

From Manchester to Wrexham: My Journey with CS Academy

To put all this theory into practice, I’ve been traveling from Manchester to Wrexham to work on models. CS Academy has become my second home, and Claire, my trainer, has been a pillar of support. More than a teacher, Claire has become a friend, guiding me not just through practical skills but through the ups and downs of the journey itself. Her encouragement has been invaluable as I navigate the overwhelming but rewarding learning process. The learning process, though fulfilling, has not been without its hurdles. Claire's unwavering encouragement and belief in my abilities have been instrumental in helping me navigate through the complexities of acquiring new skills. Her presence has provided a sense of reassurance and motivation, making the journey not only manageable but also empowering.

As I continue to grow and evolve within the realm of Aesthetics, I am grateful for the invaluable support and mentorship that Claire has provided. Her dedication and commitment have not only enhanced my technical proficiency but have also instilled in me a sense of confidence and resilience that will undoubtedly shape my future endeavors.

Attending Beauty Events and Building a Network

In addition to the coursework, I’ve attended beauty events, which have been fantastic for networking with other professionals in the industry. These events have given me a chance to learn about the latest trends and technologies, and it’s been inspiring to meet others who share the same passion. I’ve also spent time researching the best products to use, ensuring that I offer the highest quality care to my future clients.

Getting Insurance in Place

One major milestone was securing insurance, which was a vital step to ensure I’m fully covered as I progress toward offering professional treatments. Having this in place has given me peace of mind and a sense of professionalism as I continue my training.

Balancing Learning with Life’s Challenges

Life continues to present its array of challenges and changes, each requiring a unique level of adaptability and resilience. The recent milestone of my daughter starting school marks a significant transition for our family, ushering in a new chapter filled with adjustments and learning experiences. Simultaneously, my professional journey has taken a noteworthy turn as I stepped into a managerial role within my 9-5 job. This shift brings with it a fresh set of responsibilities and opportunities for growth, albeit accompanied by its own set of challenges that demand my attention and dedication.

Amidst these personal and professional developments, my focus has been tested by the unexpected health scares my mum has faced in recent times. Navigating through the complexities of supporting a loved one during such trying circumstances has added an emotional weight to my already full plate, requiring me to find strength and balance in the midst of uncertainty and worry.

Despite the whirlwind of changes and responsibilities, I have remained steadfast in my commitment to my studies. Sacrificing sleep to revise late into the night and traveling to Wrexham for practical work exemplify the lengths to which I am willing to go to pursue my educational goals and further my knowledge and skills.

Looking Ahead

It’s been an intense and rewarding journey, filled with challenges that have only made me more determined. I’ve not only gained knowledge and skills but also confidence in my ability to balance this new career path with the demands of life. I’m excited about the future as I continue progressing through Level 4, knowing that this is all building towards the bigger goal: to offer exceptional care and results to my clients.

As I prepare to launch my business, I’m excited to take you all along on this journey. Stay tuned for updates on my training and treatments, and feel free to follow me on Instagram for behind-the-scenes insights!

Welcome to my blog! I’m excited to share my journey towards becoming an Aesthetician and Esthetician, focusing on delivering real, lasting skin transformations without the use of dermal fillers. If you’re someone battling with skin issues, looking for anti-aging solutions, or interested in the world of aesthetics, this space is for you.

My Personal Struggle with Psoriasis

I’ve struggled with psoriasis since I was 18 years old. Like many, I’ve tried countless products, treatments, and advice, only to feel defeated when my skin didn’t clear up. Living with psoriasis has deeply impacted my self-confidence, mental health, and daily life. I know firsthand how frustrating it can be when your skin doesn’t reflect the person you feel inside. For a long time, I thought I’d never find relief—but I realised I could help others even if I couldn’t fix my own skin.

The Turning Point: A New Career Path

I’m currently working as a Senior Research Finance Officer at The University of Manchester in a 9-5 role that’s far removed from what truly lights me up. While the job is secure, it doesn’t align with my passion or my long-term goals. I’m a mum to a beautiful 3-year-old girl, and like all parents, I want to give her the best opportunities in life. But I knew that staying in the same job wouldn’t provide the financial freedom or fulfillment I craved.

That’s when I made the bold decision to step into the world of aesthetics, where I can combine my personal experience with skin struggles and a desire to help others achieve the results I could never get myself—including glowing, rejuvenated skin and anti-aging benefits.

Navigating the Learning Curve: From CPD to VTCT

At first, I signed up for a 1-day CPD accredited course thinking it would kickstart my journey quickly. But I walked away feeling unprepared and overwhelmed. The reality is, delivering real, long-lasting skin results isn’t something you can master in a day or even in a week.

Determined to do this the right way, I enrolled in the VTCT Level 3 Access to Aesthetics course, which offered rigorous training, hands-on practicals, and a deeper understanding of anatomy and physiology. One of the most important exams I’ve faced so far was the Anatomy and Physiology exam—it honestly felt like I was studying for a nursing degree! The questions were extremely detailed and difficult, testing my knowledge in areas crucial to ensuring the safety and well-being of my clients.

I failed the exam by just one mark the first time, but I refused to give up. I went back, studied even harder, and passed on my second try. That moment was a huge confidence boost, and it made me even more determined to help others with their skin journeys.

My ultimate goal is to build a service that prioritises real, natural results—no fillers, just effective treatments designed to restore confidence, reduce signs of aging, and enhance natural beauty.

I’m particularly excited about the anti-aging potential of treatments like microneedling and chemical peels. These treatments can stimulate collagen production, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and bring back a youthful glow without the need for injectables.

But I can’t do this alone. That’s where you come in.
